Nuala Ní Chanainn

Second Violin

Nuala studied in Cork School of Music with Cornelia Zanidache, in Oxford with Kato Havas, in Massachussets with Brian Clague and George Neikrug and in Galway with Bogdan Sofei.
She has been a professional musician since 1984, in Theatre ( Macnas, Druid, Axis, Footsbarn Travelling Theatre Co.), and in groups ( Máimín Cajun Band, String Company, Mariachi Guadalajara, Amarcord ,Corelli String Quartet, Soundpost String Quartet ( we were apprentice quartet with ConTempo ‘09/’10 and again as Soundpost Violin/ Cello Duo in ‘10/’11).
She plays many genres of music, incl Traditional Irish ( I have recorded an album ‘Béal na Trá’ with my father Tomás Ó Canainn and played as session musician on many others), Jazz, Eastern European/Gypsy.
Since moving to Cork again in 2012 I have played in Everyman/Cork Operatic Society productions of Pagliacci and Faust (conductor John O Brien).
She has been leader of the Cork Fleischmann Symphony Orchestra (conductor Keith Pascoe) for Bizet Symphony no. 1, Schubert C major ( The Great), Mendelsohn violin concerto (soloist Mairéad Hickey), Bruch Scottish Fantasy (soloist Tamsin Little ), Verdi Requiem, and last November in City Hall, Beethoven piano concerto no. 3 ( soloist Kevin Jansson) and Scheherazade.
Nuala also works as a freelance as a player and violin teacher including coaching the youngest violin repertoire orchestra of the Cork Youth Orchestra.
